This BBQ shredded chicken recipe shows you everything you need to know for the most tender, juicy BBQ chicken. It’s vibrant, smoky, and ready for sandwiches!

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless and skinless chicken breasts

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  • Stovetop method. Pat the chicken breasts dry and season with salt and pepper. Then, heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place chicken breasts in the skillet, and cook until golden brown (5 minutes per side). Pour in chicken broth and cover with a lid. Cook for 10-12 minutes, or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Instant Pot method. Add chicken breast and chick broth to the Instant Pot, and season with salt and pepper. Switch the pot to pressure cooker mode on high, and seal the lid. Cook for 10-12 minutes and then slowly release the pressure for about 15 minutes.
  • Oven method. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange chicken breasts on a plate and season with salt, pepper, and oil. Be sure to coat both sides. Place on a baking sheet, pour 1 cup of chicken broth on top and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Shred with a fork, add your favorite BBQ sauce, and enjoy!

Notes

  • To check if the chicken is fully cooked without a thermometer, pierce the thickest part; clear juices should run out.
  • After cooking in any method, shred the chicken in the cooking liquid to absorb more flavor before adding BBQ sauce.
